The Idyllic South

Kiliomeno stands at the boundary between North and South and is one of the most beautiful villages of the island preserving original stone architecture (such as the Alitzerini tavern, which is the oldest in the island) and Venetian features (Agios Nikolaos Bell Tower). Moving South one comes across the villages of Lithakia, Pantokratoras and Laganas. Laganas Bay is home to some of the most beautiful beaches and is the nesting ground for the endangered species of the loggerhead turtle Caretta Caretta. On the one side of the bay one finds Keri which is formed by Keri Lake and a small village on the hill.

The Colourful Centre

The Central region of the island is a colourful tapestry combining aspects of both the North and South regions with its traditional green villages and beautiful scenic beaches. The municipality of Alykes, one of the main tourist resorts on the island, features a salt flat and offers a vibrant atmopshere ideal for family holidays, group activities and watersports.

The Mysterious North

A succession of traditional picturesque mountain villages can be found in the North of the island. We highly recommend you plan a tour of the area including as many of the suggested destinations as possible. Starting from Exo Hora with the 170-year old plane tree in the village square, the old church of 1890 and the big ancient olive tree drive to Agios Leon and follow the winding road down to Limnionas for a stop to admire the view and a dive into the emerald green cool waters. Coming back onto the main road you can then move on to Kampi a tiny village that leads up to the cliff of Shiza which arguably offers the best sunset in Zakynthos.

Places to visit

Whether it is adventure and excitement or tranquility and relaxation you are after, holidays in Zante will reward the whole family. To really appreciate the spirit of the island you need to delve beyond the crowded tourist resorts as there are many hidden corners that still preserve a traditional Meditteranean architecture and way of life. A tour around  the island will soon reveal some key antitheses between North and South, mountain and sea, wild scenery and idyllic landscapes. These contradictions complement each other so well that they create this unique physiognomy that can only be found on Zakynthos.
